The Lake Hotel Killarney
Killarney is quite possibly the most popular stop on the Ring of Kerry, meaning in turn that there are loads of options for overnight dwellers. We landed at The Lake Hotel and couldn't have been more pleased. It has all the perks and comforts of a big brand hotel but with the attention to detail of a family run inn--which by the way, it is and has been since 1820. Resting on the shore of Lake Killarney and in the midst of the Killarney National Park, it offers outstanding views of this Irish gem. The hotel will even arrange for bikes to be delivered to you at the hotel and with loads of paths and trails at the doorstep, you can spend hours exploring on two wheels. We ventured to Muckross Abbey and then to Muckross House, Torc Waterfalls, and then on to explore more of the National Park. You can actually bike around the entire lake if you have more time! There are plenty of pit stops along the way to stop in for tea, coffee and snacks! The continental breakfast included a large enough spread to give us plenty of energy for all the biking-- with the perk of an incredible lake view to enjoy it.The hotel is compiled of three perfectly blended buildings with some rooms dating back to the 1820s--the structure that is, the rooms are all eloquently updated to maintain a classic yet modern appearance.
