Prime Location
Arashiyama was one of my favorite areas of Kyoto. It is a little separated from the central neighborhood of the city and so many people end up taking day trips here. I think you can really experience it by staying overnight! From the numerous temples and gardens, to the Hozu River, to the Bamboo Forest, to the main street shops and markets, you will LOVE Arashiyama and staying at the Suiran.
Authentic History
As with all Luxury Collection properties, the history of the hotel's location does not disappoint. It was originally the location of Emperor Godaigo's summer palace. Much later, the land was purchased by Shozo Kawasaki (yes, that one!) for a summer home. The hotel restaurant remains in this original building!
